Akbaruddin Owaisi, Telangana MLA and brother of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, has been acquitted in both the hate speech cases registered against him in 2012.
The witnesses produced by the prosecution did not indict him for any speech intended to incite communal hatred.
A special court in Nampally, Hyderabad was hearing two cases filed against All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi for allegedly making hate speeches.
The MLA was charged with ‘criminal conspiracy’ and ‘promoting enmity between two groups on grounds of religion’ under the Indian Penal Code in Nirmal (formerly Adilabad district) and Nizamabad in 2012.
More than 30 witnesses were examined in each case. Akbaruddin Owaisi was also jailed for 40 days before getting bail.
Hyderabad MP and younger brother of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has denied the allegations against him.
Several policemen, including Telangana cadre IPS officer, Amber Kishore Jha (then Nirmal’s DSP), who is currently on deputation to Ghaziabad, were also produced in support of the prosecution.
The prosecution had based its case on the report of the Forensic Scientific Laboratory (FSL), which corroborated Akbaruddin’s voice in the video footage of the speech.
