3 killed, 9 injured in lorry-van collision in Srikalahasti

Three persons, including a couple and a woman, died on the spot and nine others were seriously injured in a horrific accident on the outskirts of Srikalahasti when the van they were traveling in collided with a speeding lorry. According to the information, a twelve-member group from Chandragiri Mandal was returning home after attending the local Jatara at Kanupuramma temple near Naidupeta of Gudur division in a van.

At around 2 pm, a lorry going towards the Chennai-Kolkata National Highway rammed the van at a high speed.

The accident site is located at a sharp bend on the Naidupet-Puthalapattu bypass road near the Ardhanarishvara Swamy temple on the outskirts of Srikalahasti, considered an accident prone area.

The injured have been identified as middle-aged couple Arjunaiah and Narasamma and their relative Kavya (23).

Four of the nine injured were children under the age of 10. Srikalahasti Sub-Divisional Police reached the spot and shifted the injured to Government Sector Hospital at Srikalahasti and later shifted to SVRR Hospital, Tirupati for better critical care.

The accident resulted in a major traffic jam on the busy national highway, causing hardship to the police.

District Collector K. Venkataraman Reddy called the injured to SVRR Hospital and assured them and their family members of all possible help from the government. The Srikalahasti police have registered a case and started further action.
