In view of the ongoing scorching heat across the country, the Odisha government has revised the school timings. The new school timings will start from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm. Also, the new school timings have come into effect from today.
The development has brought much-needed relief to the coastal people of the state as the state remained in the grip of intense heat for a week, cloudy sky and light breeze. Orissa Temperatures were high in the western region of the state on Sunday as well, the Met Office said.
According to the IMD, the maximum temperature dropped by around 2-4 degrees at some places and below normal in many cities. Fifteen weather stations recorded maximum temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more as compared to 21 of the previous day Bhubaneswar Meteorological Center said.
Bolangir is still boiling as the district headquarters recorded 44.9 degrees Celsius, the highest in the state, and Titilagarh town recorded 43.5 degrees Celsius. A bulletin said that Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district and Subarnapur town recorded the mercury at 43 degrees Celsius.
The weather office said the temperature in the capital was 34 degrees Celsius, three notches below the average, Cuttack 34.2 and Balasore 33 degrees Celsius. Daringbadi in Kandhamal district received moderate rainfall of 2 mm and Bhawanipatna 16 mm till 5.30 pm.
The Center said that under the influence of southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal, scattered or widespread rain, lightning and gusty winds of about 40-50 kmph are likely to occur across the state during the next five days.
The maximum temperature is likely to drop by 2-3 degrees at many places in the next three days. However, in many districts of West Odisha, the temperature will be above 40 degrees Celsius and 2-3 degrees above normal.
