With the Karnataka government issuing a circular regarding the use of loudspeakers in the aftermath of the Azan and Hanuman Chalisa controversy, state Home Minister Araga Gyanendra on Wednesday said its implementation would be strictly monitored and in case of any violation of the law. Action will be taken accordingly.
He also said that a fair and transparent investigation into the police sub-inspector recruitment scam and the alleged suicide of contractor Santosh Patil is on.
“With regard to the issue of loudspeakers, guidelines have been issued yesterday and 15 days time has been given to file applications, (designated) officers have also been mentioned in it (guidelines). Strictly adherence to this being used, loudspeakers cannot be used between 10 pm till 6 am,” Gyanendra said.
Talking to reporters here, he said that in case of any violation, strict action will be taken as per law.
“No one can use loudspeakers without permission and everyone should follow the guidelines issued,” he said.
In a circular issued by the government on Tuesday, users of loudspeakers and public address systems have been asked to obtain written permission from the “designated authority” within 15 days.
It also prohibits the use of loudspeakers between 10 pm and 6 am, except in case of public emergency.
Recently, some Hindu groups, including the Shri Ram Sena, had launched a campaign alleging the government’s failure to act against loudspeakers installed in mosques, which included ‘Hanuman Chalisa’, ‘Good morning’, ‘Omkara’ and other devotional songs. To another question regarding the probe into the PSI recruitment scam, Gyanendra said, “Congress people are also involved…..No matter of affiliation with any party…whoever are behind the scam, They will be arrested and it will be ensured that they are punished as per the law.” The scam pertains to rampant rigging or malpractice in the examination held in October last year to recruit 545 police sub-inspectors in the state.
The state government had canceled the result of the exam conducted for the recruitment and decided to conduct the exam again.
