Four dancers from diverse backgrounds, but bound by the strings of the movement, came together in Bengaluru in 2019 to form the 206 Dance Collective in October 2020. The four will now present their work ‘Dance Song’ at the Bangalore International Centre.

The Evening of Dance, a part of the collective, says Ainish Madan, is inspired by the writings of the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. “Dance Song, intended to celebrate Nietzsche’s writings, with particular attention to dance song And second dance song from his original work Thus said Zarathustra.,

In addition to Ainesh, who has choreographed the piece, the performance will feature Anisha Tawag, Dayta Nereeth and Joshua Sailo. Abhaydev Prafulla has composed the music.

“We met during the pandemic and founded the dance collective soon after. “We worked together in a film on dance titled Loneliness.”

Anish, who majored in dance and economics in New York, said it would be the team’s first live show in the city. “I mainly studied postmodern dance and choreography.” Annesh lived and worked as a dancer in New York for four years. “I worked for other choreographers; But what I really enjoyed was creating my own movements. Once I decided to return to India, I met other team members.

Although all four dancers have a similar background in contemporary and postmodern dance, Ainesh says they also have diverse influences. “I trained in ballet and am a self-taught hip-hop dancer. Dayata has been in ballet since the age of four and studied the liberal arts, Joshua comes from a contemporary and postmodern background, while Anisha’s Has a background in Hip Hop and has taken intensive training in contemporary dance in India.

Postmodern, Annesh says it is an American idiom that came about as a reaction to the modern dance scene. “Modern came about as a retaliation for ballet and its formality. Martha Graham and others came up with the idea of ’anything but ballet,’ but postmodern is where a little ballet is brought into the mix.”

206 Dance Collective will perform on May 27 and 28 at 7 pm. It is open to all.
