Coimbatore: The Chettipalayam police on Saturday night arrested a 26-year-old man for raping a 22-year-old woman and threatening to circulate her obscene pictures and videos on social media.
The police officer has identified the accused as Abdul hameedof Sugunapuram Near Kuniyamuthur in the city. He used to work in an e-commerce company.
“Hameed proposed to the woman in November 2021 and she accepted. In the first week of December, he took her to a lodge in Ooty and raped her. Later he took her to a lodge Ukkadam And raped her in the third week of December and January this year. He also took nude pictures and videos of her,” he said.
When the girl came to know that Hameed was married and had an affair with two other women, the officer said, she started avoiding him. “Hameed contacted her on Friday and threatened to circulate nude pictures and videos of her on social media if she did not continue with the case,” the official said.
The woman lodged a complaint with the Sulur police, which registered a case under sections 376, 417 and 506 (i) of the Indian Penal Code and section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act, and arrested Hameed on Saturday night. On Sunday, Hameed was produced before the Judicial Magistrate Court and lodged in the Central Jail in judicial custody. news network
