Every leader wants CM from his party: Supriya Sule on NCP leader Munde’s remarks

NCP leader Dhananjay Munde suggested that the next chief minister of Maharashtra would be from his party, NCP MP Supriya Sule said on Monday, adding that every leader wants a chief minister from his party and there is nothing new in this.

The NCP, headed by Sharad Pawar, is a major component of the Uddhav Thackeray-led ruling government in Maharashtra, which also includes the Shiv Sena and the Congress.

When asked by some journalists here about Munde’s remarks, Sule said every leader, worker or follower of a party wants a chief minister from his organization and the same ideology. “This is a common occurrence, nothing new in this,” she said.

Asked about the possibility of horse-trading for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections from Maharashtra, he said it was “unfortunate”, and that the candidates for the six seats in the state should have been elected unopposed without any competition. The ruling MVA has fielded four candidates and the BJP has nominated three of its leaders for the June 10 Rajya Sabha elections for six seats in the state.

Sule said some members of the MVA met senior BJP leaders and requested them to find some way out (to avoid a fight for Rajya Sabha seats). On speculation that some smaller allies of the MVA might help the BJP’s Rajya Sabha candidates, Sule said the issue should be taken seriously and the leaders of the ruling coalition should discuss it.

He was also asked whether NCP MLAs Anil Deshmukh and Nawab Malik, who are currently in jail, would be allowed to vote in the Rajya Sabha elections. “Two NCP leaders are in jail for doing nothing wrong. We have faith in the judiciary and we are confident that we will get justice. NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal is trying that both the leaders get a chance to vote.

When asked about Sachin Vaze, the sacked police officer becoming an official witness in a corruption case against former state home minister Anil Deshmukh, Sule said, “The person (Vaze), who is himself facing the charges. is becoming a witness, and that person (Deshmukh). No charges against him, his residence was searched 109 times. “Have we seen anything like this before? This is a record of sorts,” he claimed, adding that central agencies are being “misused” by the central government.

On some alleged objectionable remarks made against NCP chief Sharad Pawar recently by state BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar, Sule quipped that people keep criticizing him as “there can be no title without criticizing Sharad Pawar”.
