Chidambaram resigns from Maharashtra Rajya Sabha seat after being elected from Tamil Nadu

Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Thursday resigned from his Rajya Sabha seat from Maharashtra after being elected to the Upper House for a fresh term from his home state Tamil Nadu.

Mr Chidambaram was among 41 winners elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha earlier this month.

“After my election to the Rajya Sabha from the State of Tamil Nadu, I am required to resign from my seat from the State of Maharashtra. Accordingly, today I tendered my resignation from the seat from the State of Maharashtra,” Mr Chidambaram said in a tweet.

The former Union Minister said, “The Hon’ble Chairman, Rajya Sabha has accepted my resignation. I have the honor of representing the state of Maharashtra. I wish the people of Maharashtra future, peace and prosperity.”
