Man jailed for buying liquor in fake currency tender Coimbatore News – Times of India

Coimbatore: A 27-year-old man has been arrested for buying liquor on Wednesday night TASMAC Shop with fake 500 note.
RS Puram Police has identified the accused as S. aurobindo, a resident of Sivanandapuram near Sarvanampatti in the city. He is working in Money Exchange Company in RS Puram.
According to a police officer, Arvind used to visit various places in a day as part of his job collecting Indian currency notes and exchanging them with foreign currencies for commission.
“After work, he bought a bottle of liquor from Tasmac outlet (No 1696) in North Coimbatore by paying Rs 500 on Wednesday night. Cashier D Ravikumar56, k Veerapandi Pirivu, checked the currency note and found that it was a fake note. Immediately, he alerted us,” said the officer.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Arvind had collected over Rs 1 lakh in Indian currency for exchange from Palladam in Tiruppur district last week. ‘When he handed over the amount to the exchange firm, an employee found that one of the Rs 500 notes was counterfeit. Arvind kept the fake note with him and used it to buy liquor,” said the official. He said Arvind had used counterfeit notes at Tasmac outlets in the past as well. Arvind was booked under section 489 (b) of the Indian Penal Code and produced before a judicial magistrate on Thursday morning. He was later sent to judicial custody.
