The humpback whale suddenly came under the kayak and overturned it.
The Internet is a storehouse of quirky content that never fails to amaze you. There are some moments captured in the camera which keep coming up again and again and are capable of making your spine crinkle every time. Like a video of a humpback whale that nearly swallowed two cankers. The incident took place on a California beach in November 2020, when kayakers were watching whale movements. The clip was originally posted to Facebook by Kelly Ballantyne and later made available by ViralHog.
It has once again gone viral on social media, in which many people are involved. reddit users Posting clips to different boards.
Julie McSorley and Liz Cotriel, two friends who had narrowly watched humpback whales feeding on silverfish, when one surfaced at the bottom of their kayak, turned it over and nearly swallowed both.
Talking to Julie recalled the tragic incident CNN days later. The woman said that before she could understand anything, she was in the water.
She went on to say that both friends learned an important lesson in life: “Whales need their space.”
From footage of the incident recorded by a bystander, it appears that the two were nearly swallowed by the whale. Thankfully, after the whales left, they simply turned around and ended up in the water.
According to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), humpback whales typically eat krill and smaller fish. They are powerful swimmers and are found near the beach.
It further said that commercial whaling has severely reduced the number of humpback whales from historic levels. The United States has listed all humpback whales as endangered under the Endangered Species Protection Act in 1970 and then the Endangered Species Act in 1973.
Meanwhile, Ms McSorley told CBC That she would never go kayaking again when the whale was out, unless she could keep a football field’s distance from the creatures.
