Bangalore:
A video of two students kissing in Mangaluru, Karnataka, which has gone viral, has landed eight students in huge trouble. Eight teenagers from St. Aloysius College have been taken into custody and produced in a juvenile justice court.
Police said the video was filmed six months ago, but was uploaded recently. The girl seen in the kissing video has alleged sexual harassment in a police complaint, after which the boys have been accused. She was one of the two girls seen in the video, which was reportedly filmed in an apartment near Light House Hill Road in Mangaluru.
The girl told the police that she knew the boys in that apartment and that she had a physical relationship with one of them, which was filmed. The girl said that other boys blackmailed her using the video.
Among the accused juveniles is a 17-year-old boy who uploaded the video on social media.
The students reportedly gathered in an apartment in February. The kiss was apparently part of a “truth or dare” game. In the video, a boy and a girl, both in their uniforms, are seen kissing while their friends are encouraging them.
According to the police, their investigation revealed that all the eight boys sexually assaulted the two girls multiple times using video clips taken during the meeting.
City Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar said the investigation would be taken to its logical end. He said the college management should keep a watch on the activities of the students and bring such cases of “extreme indiscipline and misconduct” to the notice of the police.
Three separate cases have been registered against 8 students under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and various sections of the IT Act.
The police allege that the college administration was aware of the incident, but did not inform it.
