MANGALURU: City police have launched an investigation after right-wing activists allegedly disrupted a party organized by some college students at a pub on Monday night.
city police commissioner N Shashi Kumar visited the pub located in Mangaluru North Police Station Seema with a team of senior police officers. He told reporters on Monday that the department could take up the matter if the statement of the victims or any of the pub workers triggers a legal process.
“We are inquiring about the students and pub workers who had come to the pub. If there is any complaint from them, necessary legal action will be taken,” said Shashi Kumar.
It is learned that some right-wing activists had gone to a pub near Balamatta and asked the bouncer about the age of the students who were partying inside. The bouncer took the matter to the pub manager, who in turn questioned the students about their age. Soon, the students left, the commissioner said.
So far, there has been no report of assault on students inside the pub. The bouncer told us that the workers were outside the pub. The police have contacted the pub owner who is in Mumbai to access the CCTV footage of the premises. The police chief said the footage would reveal more about the incident.
If people below 21 years of age are found serving liquor in the pub, then the police and excise department will take necessary action.
Meanwhile, the commissioner clarified that preliminary investigation has revealed that the students present at the pub had no connection with the minor students of a city college whose video had gone viral recently.
