cet Launched a new range of tires specially designed for four wheelers electric vehicles (EVS), making it the first tire manufacturer in the country to do so. Is known ‘energydrive’, the new EV-specific tire range includes what CEAT calls CALM technology, which stands for CEAT Acoustic Reducing Material.
What does it do and how does it make it different from other tyres? Since EVs don’t have engine noise, tire noise becomes more pronounced. CEAT claims that the tire uses a patented sound absorbing material that reduces noise by filtering and absorbing vibrations. The EnergyDrive tires also get a new cavity design called EasyFlex, which helps reduce the rolling resistance of the tyres, thereby assisting the electric car with better driving range.
Since EVs deliver their torque instantly, unlike internal combustion vehicles, which take time to build up, Ceat has taken this into account for the new EnergyDrive tyres. The DuraBlock technology used on the tire range gives it block stiffness and lower thread flexing. The improved stiffness reduces the distortion of the tires when turning on the road, and helps the tires last longer, even when handling the EV’s instant torque delivery.
Commenting on the launch, Arnab Banerjee, COO, CEAT said, “This is the first time that a tire like the EnergyDrive has been launched in India aimed at a four-wheel EV. EVs are generally very silent vehicles with high torque, which makes tire noise more pronounced. Our EnergyDrive range of tires with CALM technology tackles this problem for EV owners in the country. We expect it to emerge as the preferred tire for EV owners.
