Poddar said, since the Valmi center is in Dharwad, farmers from southern districts of Karnataka find it difficult to attend workshops in person, which require satellite training programmes. “As many as 3,000 stakeholders can participate in these virtual workshops,” said the Valmi chief.
Poddar pointed to the agricultural land, water resources, irrigation technology and favorable climate for growing a variety of crops in North Karnataka saying, “Despite ready availability of resources, farmers of the region suffer from lack of information about water. are handicapped. and soil management, are unable to get a good crop. This inspired us to start programs to educate farmers. We have started training them in dairy farming.”
