JK parties meeting to discuss the issue of ‘inclusion of non-local voters’; Lone, Bukhari absent

An “all-party” meeting called by National Conference president Farooq Abdullah to discuss the issue of “inclusion of non-local voters” in the electoral rolls in Jammu and Kashmir was underway here on Monday. However, the Sajjad Lone-led People’s Conference and Altaf Bukhari-led Apni Party abstained from the meeting.

The BJP also called a meeting of its leaders in Jammu on Monday to work out a counter-strategy against the meeting called by the National Conference.

The meeting began this morning at Abdullah’s residence in the high-security Gupkar area and was attended by PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, Congress’s Jammu and Kashmir unit president Vikar Rasool, CPI(M) leader MY Tarigami and Shiv Sena leaders besides NC leaders. Abdullah had called a meeting to discuss the issue of “inclusion of non-local voters” in the electoral rolls in Jammu and Kashmir after remarks by UT Chief Electoral Officer Hirdesh Kumar regarding adding voters in the revised rolls were hacked. it was done. regional party.

The government had issued a clarification last Saturday, saying the reports of over 25 lakh voters turning up after summary revision of electoral rolls amounted to “misrepresentation of facts by vested interests”. Dissatisfied with the clarification issued by the Jammu and Kashmir administration on issues related to the revised electoral rolls, the National Conference and the PDP said they would go ahead with the meeting.

He claimed that the administration had not addressed his main concern whether “outsiders” ordinarily residing in J&K would be allowed to enroll as voters. Lone said the meeting seemed like an exercise to score points and he would not like to be a part of it.

One woman (Mehbooba Mufti) says to call an all-party meeting and another calls (phones). Also tell me, how much can we pretend? We abuse each other politically round the clock. I abused him yesterday, he has done it a day back also. How long can we pretend that everything is useless, he told reporters. Mehboobaji, desperate to get back her (lost) land, issues a decree to call an all-party meeting…. He said that the era of Maharaja Hari Singh is long gone.

Lone, however, said that if anything concrete emerges from the meeting, his party will support whole-heartedly and expected reciprocal attitude from the meeting participants for their efforts to tackle the issue of non-local voters. Mainstream political parties have alleged that “inclusion of non-locals was an obvious ploy to oust the people of Jammu and Kashmir”.
