NMCG signs MoU with state bodies for sewage treatment plant to clean Yamuna

National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam and Vishwaraj Paryavaran Private Limited (VEPL) signed a tripartite concession agreement on 25 August for the development of Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) for Agra under Hybrid Annuity Mode at a total cost of Rs. Put signature on. 582.84 crores.

NMCG has approved the project for construction of STP with total capacity of 177.6 MLD including Interception and Diversion (I&D) structures, laying of I&D network, sewage pumping station including operation and maintenance for 15 years.

With this project, NMCG aims to take care of the existing sewerage problems in the city of Agra that pollute the Yamuna River. The government body expects, upon completion of this project, that there will be no discharge of untreated sewage from Agra city into the Yamuna river, thereby reducing the pollution load in the river.

NMCG Director General G Ashok Kumar said, “This project will prove to be another milestone in achieving the objective of containing any untreated waste water in river Yamuna, which is one of the major tributaries of river Ganga.”

The project will be implemented under hybrid annuity based PPP model and will ensure that the STP is operated and maintained as per the stringent performance requirements, Statement added.
