Which grocery order does India order online? This new report reveals

The trend of ordering online has picked up in a big way in the last two years. Earlier, we were ordering everything online due to the nationwide lockdown. Thanks to its ease and convenience, it soon became second nature to order online. Not only food but other essentials like grocery, medical supplies etc became available at our doorstep within few clicks. But what exactly did we order online in terms of grocery requirements? Swiggy Instamart has recently released a report to give information about this. Completing two years of its launch, Swiggy has analyzed the millions of orders placed on its app between June 2021 and 2022 to reveal some interesting facts about India’s online ordering pattern.

First of all, Swiggy’s report good Revealed insights into the volume of orders placed on its grocery ordering arm Instamart. The app revealed that Bangalore, Mumbai and Hyderabad have placed more orders than the population of Canada in the last 12 months! For the most popular item to be ordered online, it has to be eggs. Believe it or not, Instamart delivered over 5 crores or 50 million eggs in the last two years. Bangalore and Hyderabad were the cities that ordered eggs for breakfast, while Mumbai, Jaipur and Coimbatore ordered eggs at dinner time.

Eggs weren’t the only groceries that were popular at Application, Even dairy products including milk were widely ordered on Swiggy Instamart. According to the report, different types of milk such as regular milk, full cream milk and toned milk were ordered more than 30 million times in the last two years.

Other than MandatoryEven ice cream and juice were extremely popular in the hot summer months of April to June. While ice cream orders increased by 42 per cent during the summer, users in Hyderabad ordered 27,000 bottles of fresh juice. Green chillies were a popular commodity in Hyderabad and Bangalore, these two cities having delivered 290 tonnes of the spice during the previous year. Swiggy has also seen a surge in demand organic Fruits and vegetables 58 times.
