Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday met VK Saxena for the first time since the CBI raid at Manish Sisodia’s residence and said whatever happened was “unfortunate” and hoped that the situation would improve. Amid AAP’s tussle with the Lt Governor, Kejriwal did not attend the last three weekly meetings, which used to take place every Friday, including a raid at Deputy Chief Minister Sisodia’s residence on August 19.
The raid was conducted in connection with alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22. LG Saxena had recommended a CBI inquiry into the implementation of the liquor policy. “Whatever happened was unfortunate. I am hopeful that the situation will improve. We discussed in a very cordial atmosphere,” Kejriwal told reporters after the meeting.
He said Friday meetings could not take place in the past few weeks as he was out of Delhi “by chance”. “Today’s meeting was very good. Many issues were discussed. I requested them to improve the work of MCD together as dirt has become a big issue in the city. I have offered the help of Delhi government to remove the garbage dump. It will take years with the current pace of work,” he said.
The meeting lasted about 40 minutes. The relationship between the AAP government and the LG in Delhi has deteriorated after the recommendation of a CBI inquiry into the liquor policy.
AAP leaders leveled corruption allegations against Saxena during his tenure as chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). Expressing displeasure over the corruption allegations, the LG on September 1 launched a direct attack on Kejriwal in a series of tweets, accusing him of “desperately” resorting to “ditching tactics and false accusations”.
Breaking his silence on allegations of corruption, the LG had said that various issues, including “serious discrepancies” in the Excise Policy 2021-22, were flagged by him but “unfortunately” the response he received was “pseudo”. and as a “personal attack”. On that. The LG also sent legal notices to several AAP leaders including Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, MLAs Atishi, Durgesh Pathak and Saurabh Bhardwaj.
Responding to the legal action, Kejriwal had said that those who are in public life should be ready for any investigation into the allegations against them. The chief minister, after his first meeting with Saxena, who took over as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi in May, had said that they would meet every Friday at 4 pm to discuss various issues related to Delhi for coordination.
