Surat: Seven people have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping the general manager (GM) of a construction firm working in the Ahmedabad-Bullet train and its driver to recover Rs 15 lakh.
The accused are labor suppliers and allegedly they were not paid the wages of the workers.
Police arrested Majebur Rehman Mohammad Ibrahim, (42), Sahabul Haque, (35), labor contractor, Imrul Kayes, (33), Hasnouj Haq, (38), Mohammad Ayesh Abdul Sattar (36), Mubarak Diwan, (35). Arrested. Sahabul Maujrali Mohammad, (42). Most of the accused are from West Bengal.
They allegedly abducted Rajkumar Gupta, (58) and his driver Manoj Dutta (54) from the project site in Antoli village of Surat district on Sunday evening. The accused took both of them to Bharuch. Gupta works for RBCL Pilotech Infra while Dutta is a driver in a company which is doing construction work for the bullet train project.
Soon the police were alerted and teams of Crime Branch, Special Operations Group were formed from Surat and Bharuch to trace the location of the victims. The accused came in an SUV and took away another SUV of the victim’s firm. The police searched the SUV of the contract company near Hansot in Bharuch but it was found unclaimed. Meanwhile, the police found the location of the victims at Madina Park in Bharuch. Police rescued them and nabbed the accused.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were demanding Rs 15 lakh from Gupta. The accused had supplied laborers in the project in which Gupta was working. Police said they were demanding money but due to some unknown reason the payment was not released by the contracting firm.
