House Of The Dragon Ep 4 Review: Matt Smith Holds The Crown As Gotti Prequel Tackles Sex, Incest, Abortion

House of the Dragon Apk 4 Review: Warning – Spoiler ahead. The fourth episode of the Game of Thrones prequel dropped on Monday (IST) and it traced the steamy chemistry between Prince Damon Targaryen (Matt Smith) and Princess Renera (Millie Alcock). While the chemistry had been going on from Episode 1, the Iron Throne game didn’t come into the picture until the relationship was explored. As if that wasn’t malleable enough, House of the Dragon also brought a twist we’ve been waiting to see: the fate of the king’s hand, Otto Hightower (Rice Ifans).

The new House of the Dragon episode begins with Rainera making several marriage proposals. He is on tour, looking for his perfect match arranged by his father, King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine). However, she cuts the trip because she doesn’t think she’ll find a suitable match outside King’s Landing. On his way back, he learns that his beloved Uncle Damon is back after defeating the Crabfeeder. While he is crowned King of the Narrow Sea, he forgets this title. We’ll get back to that in a little while.

Damon seems to have made a difference, surrendering to Viserys. He bows before the king and has a more mature approach to life, something that Renera notices. After a party in honor of the prince ends, Damon and Rainera capture the lost four years when the former tries to convince the princess that marriage is more than just political ties. An example is his best friend turned stepmother Alicent (Emily Carey).

The discussion does not change Renyara’s mind. So, Damon decides to give her a taste of the real world. By turning him into a bell boy who will go unnoticed in the crowd, Damon shows Renyara all that happens in the owl hour and beyond the great walls of the castle. Under the guise, Rainyara learns that the world craves food and sex. He also learns that the people of the kingdom reject him as the heir to the Iron Throne. Rejecting their opinion, Rainyara flees into the dark alleys and is reunited with Damon.

He then takes her to one of his pleasure houses and things go off steam. Bringing back the conversation of marriage, Damon explains to Renyara that marriage is not only the union of two powerful kingdoms, but also about pleasures for both men and women. The intimate conversation leads to a kiss and in the end, Rainyra is ready to physically surrender herself to Damon. However, he leaves her at the pleasure house half naked, and disappears.

While Rainyra exits the castle with Damon, she does not hide her way back in. However, his sudden return as a bell boy warns Ser Kristen Cole (Fabian Frankel). When he decides to take action, Rainyara stops him and lures him into his cells with her feeble moves. One thing leads to another and Renyara kisses Kristen. He retaliates and soon, another intimate scene unfolds. Little does Rainyara know that a lot of trouble awaits her in the morning.

A detective from the White Worm informs Otto Hightower about a visit to the pleasure house with Damon. The Hightower informs the king of his whereabouts and it leads to chaos. The king brings Damon down to the court and forbids him to be in King’s Landing. While his anger towards ‘defiling’ Rainyra led to the decision, it was further cemented when Damon proposed to marry her to restore power to the House of Targaryen.

Thereafter, he meets Renyara and orders her to marry Lenore Valerian, son of Lord Corliss Valerian and Princess Rainey Targaryen. If that wasn’t enough, the king also severed ties with Hightower, removing him from the position at hand, after realizing that he had impaled his daughter, Alicent, as his grandson to rule the throne.

The scandalous show ends with the princess being presented with a ‘powdered tea’ that will get rid of any ‘unwanted consequences’. The scene indicated a miscarriage, leaving Rainyara in shock.

House Of The Dragon Ep 4 Review:

The new episode picks up pace again with politics, sex, and incest at its center. Matt Smith is emerging as one of the best actors the series has ever produced, donning different shades in just four episodes. He underestimates himself in the new episodes but his chemistry with Millie Allock is never off camera. Their scenes together help Millie stand out as well.

Emily Carey is finally given a place to push her limits as Alicent. She holds the screen a lot stronger than Paddy Considine in some scenes as King Viserys I Targaryen. However, Paddy shines in the courtroom scenes.

The cinematography, especially in the Pleasure House scene, shows that House of the Dragon underwent a change following the Meitu movement. The intimacy scenes are far more about the chemistry between the actors than just the supposedly naked people in the room. Looks like there are many twists waiting to come in the new episodes and we can’t wait to see the consequences of Raja’s actions in the coming episodes.

House of the Dragon Disney+ . streams on Hotstar in India.
