A high level team will inspect the Chennai airport ahead of the inauguration of some important passenger amenities, which include a part of the new integrated terminal building and multilevel car parking.
Airports Authority of India (AAI) Chairman Sanjeev Kumar and a team of officials from New Delhi will hold a high-level meeting here on Thursday and Friday.
According to AAI officials, the airside facilities, new integrated terminal building and multilevel car parking will be inspected on Thursday and the meeting is to be held on Friday.
“There is a lot of interest in Chennai airport and it needs to be improved. The inspection is important now as the multilevel car parking will be inaugurated by the end of this month and the new integrated building will be inaugurated by December. The team of officials will see how the work is progressing and how the terminal is shaping up and the facilities coming up in the building.
Sources said ways to decongest the airport and the need to increase runway capacity for movement of more aircraft were likely to be the focus of discussions.
Expectations are high among commuters about the new integrated terminal, which is under construction as part of the second phase modernization project at a cost of around Rs 2,500 crore.
While the construction of the terminal has been going on for some years, the multilevel car parking has been completed but with some mandatory approvals. Officials said the approval is likely to be given within a week.
