Fake astronaut took Rs 24 lakh from woman to ‘return to earth’, got married

A woman from Shiga Prefecture met a fake astronaut on Instagram in June

A Japanese woman was allegedly defrauded of around 4.4 million yen (Rs 24.8 lakh) by a man posing as a Russian cosmonaut working on the International Space Station. Thug demands money from 65-year-old on the pretext of returning to Prithvi and marrying her TV Asahi,

The woman from Shiga Prefecture met the fake astronaut on Instagram in June. The report said that his profile contained photographs from space, giving the false impression that he worked on the space station.

As per reports, the two started exchanging messages and transferred their conversation to Line, a Japanese messaging application. Soon, the man told the woman that he had fallen in love with her and even proposed to marry her.

The man kept on sending messages to the woman saying that he loved her and wanted to start a new life in Japan with her.

The thug tells her that he needs money to return to Prithvi and marry her. The report said he claimed to have paid a landing fee for the rocket that could have taken him to Japan.

The woman allegedly fell for it and started sending him money. He transferred a total of 4.4 million yen to the person in five installments between August 19 and September 5. Yomiuri Shimbun,

It was only after the man demanded more money that the woman became suspicious. The report said she filed a complaint with the police, which is treating the case as an international romance scam.
