This is because Apple has added a new fast charging feature to the Watch Series 7, so the MagSafe Duo charger launched last year will fail to fast charge the Watch 7, making the device outdated.
Apple mentions in its support page, “The MagSafe Duo Charger does not support fast charging with the Apple Watch Series 7. Use the Apple USB-C Magnetic Fast Charging Cable to fast charge your Apple Watch Series 7 ”
Also note that when charging a non-MagSafe Qi-compatible device with a MagSafe Duo charger, power is reduced and charge times may be slower than with a normal Qi charger. Thankfully, the MagSafe Duo charger is compatible with all iPhone 13 models. “The magnets in the charger and your iPhone will align for optimal charging. Adjusting the position of your iPhone 13 after charging has started may take longer to charge,” Apple said.
The Watch Series 7 gets a bigger size, new OS-related features but no new health features. Apple claims battery life – 18 hours a day – is similar to that of the Watch Series 6, with the Series 7 charging 33% faster than its predecessor. This is a big plus because at times you might find that Apple Watch charges quite slow.
