6.3 magnitude earthquake in Nepal, strong tremors felt for several seconds in Delhi-NCR

Earthquake in Delhi-NCR: A 6.3-magnitude earthquake in Nepal sent tremors to Delhi-NCR in the early hours of Wednesday. People are sleeping in Delhi and its adjoining Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad. According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake occurred at 1:57 pm. The depth of the earthquake was about 10 km.

The National Center for Seismology said in a tweet, “The earthquake of magnitude: 6.3, occurred at 09-11-2022, 01:57:24 IST, Latitude: 29.24 & Long: 81.06, Depth: 10 km, Location: Nepal”. The epicenter of the earthquake was 90 km southeast of Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand bordering Nepal.

People felt tremors for several seconds in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad. Till the filing of this article, no report of loss of life or property has been received. Tremors were also felt in many parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and parts of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan.

This was the second earthquake to hit Nepal in less than 24 hours. An earthquake of 4.9 magnitude struck the Himalayan country at 8:52 pm on Tuesday night.

Social media platforms like Twitter and WhatsApp were full of news and updates regarding the earthquake. Within minutes of the tremors, more than 25,000 tweets were recorded on Twitter along with #earthquake and #earthquakeindelhi. Many described the earthquake as really strong and one they had never experienced before.
