The villagers allege that even after seven years, the government failed to fulfill the promise.

Hundreds of villagers, who lost their homes and land in the expansion of the Gannavaram International Airport, staged a ‘rasta roko’ on November 8, demanding the government to allot a house for them.

According to sources, around 1,230 acres of land was taken from local people for the airport in Budhavaram, Ajajampudi, Chinavutapally and Allapuram villages of Gannavaram mandal of East Krishna district seven years ago.

The protesters who blocked the main road from Unguturu to Gannavaram said that the government has assured to provide houses to all the victims. But, alternate land was not allotted and houses were not constructed for the airport victims.

“We gave fertile land for the expansion of Gannavaram International Airport, even after seven years we have not received any benefits as assured by the government,” said a villager.

The police reached the spot and pacified the villagers. He said that the problem would be taken up with the concerned authorities.
