Southern India Textile Research Association (SITRA) and Make India on Friday launched Salt Free Dyeing Technology (Go Green SFD) for textile processing.
Make India’s Manickam Atthappa Gounder told Hindu That it was working with SITRA for almost six years to develop salt free dyeing technology and recently signed an MoU with SITRA. It has now set up a plant at Karur to process fabrics using salt-free dyeing technology. “We have completed the testing. We will do a trial run for a few days and then start commercial operations,” he said. The plan is to process around eight lakh kilograms of cloth a day by next June or July. Dyes can be used in cotton and cotton blends.
Handloom and Textiles Minister R. Gandhi said he has urged the company to come up with similar solutions for the leather sector as well.
According to SITRA sources, under this technology, now instead of catalysts used in the dyeing process, chemicals will be used so that there is no residual salt in the final product. It can also be used in conventional processing machinery. MAK India will have the exclusive right to use this technology for five years and the non-exclusive right for the next five years.
