Europa League: Strugglers Leicester and Roma ‘can’t wait’

Europa events are proving to be a difficult balancing act for some heavyweight clubs and as the group approaches the halfway point this week, big clubs like Leicester and Napoli run the risk of falling hard. Leicester beat Manchester United 4-2 in the Premier League on Saturday, but manager Brendan Rodgers’ habit of resting players in Europe means they finish last in Group C, where they face Spartak on Wednesday. Travel to Moscow.

Leicester started a reserve team for their tour of Eastern Europe on the second match day, did not manage a shot on goal and lost 1–0 in Warsaw. Now they have an even longer journey and then a difficult tour of Brentford in the Premier League on Sunday.

“We will pick a team to win the match. We have all the fit players here because this is a very important match for us,” Rodgers said at a pre-match press conference in Moscow on Tuesday.

Asked whether Jamie Vardy, who played the last two minutes against Napoli and the last six against Leggia, would start, Rodgers replied: “You’ll see tomorrow.” Captain Ricardo Pereira said Leicester needed to start winning in Europe.

“We can’t wait until the last game,” he said. “Usually we need to get around 10 points. We can’t wait any longer.” Leicester has a surprising company at the foot of Group C.

Napoli are at the top of Serie A after winning all eight of their home league matches – a winning goal from Nigerian international forward Victor Osimhen kept that record alive against Torino on Sunday – but have yet to win in the Europa League.

In the final round he played 60 minutes with 10 men and lost 3–2 at home to Spartak. On Thursday he needs to secure a victory against leaders Legia in Warsaw.

Other giants to have won the Europa League include Rangers, Marseille and Real Sociedad.

Rangers are already six points behind Group A leaders Lyon, but they could take the field as they host fellow struggler Brndby. Real Sociedad are in a tough Group B with Monaco and PSV and could find themselves in contention after beating futile Sturm Graz after drawing with them both.

Meanwhile, West Ham, making their Europa League debut, have fielded stronger teams in their first two games and have already taken a three-point lead in Group H before they host Genk, although against Tottenham in London on Sunday. He will have a look at the K Derby. .

Playing against weak opposition in the inaugural Europa Conference take- ‘flesh and blood’-egg, Spurs have tried to expend the minimum amount of energy in qualifying and the result has been maximum concern. Tottenham left their first team at home for Pacos Ferreira’s qualifying round trip and needed Harry Kane in the return stage.

In Group G, he started reserve at Rennes and at home to Mura and needed to call Kane and Co. off the bench in both games to have four points. After a winning trip to Newcastle on Sunday and with West Ham arriving, they are unlikely to make their star starts against Vitesse in Arnhem.

“It’s good to win and get that winning spirit and hopefully we will continue the week in Europe and then next week against West Ham,” Kane said after Newcastle’s win. Meanwhile, Group C leader Roma travels beyond the Arctic Circle to face second-place Bodo/Glimt.

Even though Bodo is the Norwegian champion and started the season in the Champions League and Champions League, coach Kjetil Knuts played the underdog card when it came to Roma boss Jose Mourinho. “He’s a flesh-and-blood man like the rest of us,” Knuts said, adding his team “can achieve the most incredible things.”
