Seeking to ensure that there is a temple in every district of Andhra Pradesh, the government has said that temples are being constructed on a large scale in the state.
Deputy CM Kottu Satyanarayana said that on the instructions of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, this initiative has been started to protect and promote Hinduism.
“To protect and propagate the Hindu faith in a big way, the construction of Hindu temples has been started in areas belonging to weaker sections,” Endowments Minister Satyanarayana said in a release on Tuesday.
The Sree Vani Trust of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams has allocated Rs 10 lakh each for the construction of the temples.
Apart from the commencement of construction of 1,330 temples, another 1,465 have been added to this list. Similarly, 200 more will be made on the request of some MLAs.
He said that the remaining temples would be constructed with the help of other voluntary organisations.
According to the minister, the construction of 978 temples is going on fast under the aegis of the Endowment Department, while the work of every 25 temples has been assigned to an assistant engineer.
Out of the CGF funds of Rs 270 crore allocated for reviving some temples and conducting rituals in the temples, Rs 238 crore has already been released.
Similarly, out of Rs 28 crore earmarked for funding rituals (Doop Deep Naivedyam) at the rate of Rs 5,000 per temple in this financial year, Rs 15 crore has lapsed.
Mr. Satyanarayana said, “Under the Dupdeep scheme, only 1,561 temples were enrolled till 2019, which has now increased to 5,000.”
