As the online tussle between Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh continues, several Congress leaders have taken a personal dig at what Capt. tried to do. Back to the ‘real issues’ that pertain to every Punjabi and the generations to come.
A war of words and pictures has erupted on social media following the personal attack on Amarinder Singh over his Pakistani friend Arusa Alam. Randhawa had said on Friday that a probe has been ordered to find out whether Arosa Alam, a longtime personal friend of Amarinder Singh, had a sharp reaction to the ousted chief minister.
In a later deleted tweet, Randhawa, who also holds the Home portfolio, claimed that Singh has been friends with Alam for years, and that she lived in India for several years and her visa was extended from time to time by the Centre.
Though Navjot Sindhu has so far opted not to comment on Arosa, her Chief Strategic Advisor Mohammad Mustafa on Saturday shared a picture of Arosa with former DGP Dinkar Gupta and former chief secretary Vini Mahajan. Hours later, Amarinder’s media advisor Raveen Thukral shared pictures of Arusa with Mustafa’s wife and cabinet minister Razia Sultana.
With the political temperature rising over these personal attacks, Sidhu took to Twitter to quell the controversy. In a series of tweets on Sunday, he said, “How do we combat the financial emergency that is staring at us? I will stick to the real issues and will not let them hold back.
In another tweet, Sidhu said, “The choice is clear between irreparable damage and the last chance for damage control.” Who will bring back the state’s resources to the state treasury instead of going to the private pocket? Who will lead the initiative to resurrect our great kingdom to prosperity! “
The former cricketer-turned-politician further added, “Clear the haze on the roadmap for the revival of Punjab, let reality shine like the sun, stay away from those who protect selfish vested interests and focus only on the path that leads to Will lead you to Jitega Punjab.”
Several senior leaders have taken the attack on Captain’s Pakistani friend on a personal level by questioning him. The former chief minister has been expressing concern over the ongoing ISI activities in the state, claiming that it was aimed at disturbing peace in the state. He was also targeting Sidhu, claiming that he is not “fit” to be the party’s chief ministerial face.
