Sunrisers Hyderabad rode on brilliant innings from Heinrich Klaasen and Abhishek Sharma to beat Delhi Capitals by 9 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday.
The bottom-placed Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premium League play against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Tata IPL 2023 in Delhi on April 29.
After winning the toss, SRH Aiden Markram elected to bat and the team set the Capitals an impressive target of 198 runs to chase.
SRH innings:
SRH’s batting line-up could not provide a good start and lost 2 wickets – Mayank Agarwal (5) and Rahul Tripathi (10) – in the powerplay itself. After this, the team also lost two important wickets – Aiden Markram (8) and Harry Brook (0) – in the next few overs.
However, opener Abhishek Sharma stood firm and forged a strong partnership with Heinrich Klaasen. Sharma also brought up his half-century and scored 67 off 36 balls before being dismissed by AR Patel in the 12th over.
Sharma was followed by Klaasen with an unbeaten 53 off 27, while Abdul Samad made 28. After 20 overs, SRH scored 197 runs losing 6 wickets.
Mitchell Marsh took four wickets for DC, while Ishant Sharma and Akshar Patel took one wicket each.
DC shift:
Chasing a mammoth target of 198 runs, the openers of Delhi Capitals landed on the pitch. Although captain David Warner could not open the account and Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed him in the very first over.
Thereafter, Phil Salt (59) and Mitchell Marsh (63) both stood firm on the pitch and established a valuable partnership. The batting line-up began to crumble after Mayank Markande and Akil Hossain dismissed Salt and Marsh in the 12th and 14th overs. By the end of 20 overs, DC could only manage 188 runs for the loss of 6 wickets and lost by 9 runs.
For SRH, Mayank Markande took 2 wickets while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Akil Hossain, T Natarajan and Abhishek Sharma took one wicket each.
With this, SRH have moved up one spot to the 8th spot in the IPL standings as they have won 3 out of the 8 matches they have played while DC are still at the bottom of the IPL points table.
