Exclusive conversation with Rajeev Chaba on MG Comet EV, Electric Vehicles and more

MG Motor India, the British-Chinese automaker with a legacy of 99 years, recently launched the MG Comet EV in India at a starting price of Rs 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom, introductory). The MG Comet EV, the smallest and cheapest electric car in India, aims to create a new segment of personal electric mobility in the country. It is also the second electric car from the automaker after the mid-size electric car MG ZS EV. With the launch of the MG Comet EV, the company aims to capture 30 per cent market share in the EV space this year, as told by Rajeev Chaba, MD, MG Motor India. Idea behind MG Comet EV

Rajeev Chaba during an interaction with Zee News revealed that the MG Comet EV is based on the brand’s global GSEV-platform which is said to be the fastest selling EV platform to reach 1 million buyers. MG Comet EV gets a new design language with 2 door setup and 4 seater cabin. According to him, the MG Comet EV aims to cater to a new segment of personal clean mobility and the car is already available for bookings. Deliveries of the MG Comet EV are expected to begin from next month.

USP of MG Comet EV

The MG Comet EV, according to Rajeev Chaba, is a very unique product in the sense that it offers a tall boy design with high practicality for Indian buyers, while being small enough to save space inside the garage. It can drive 230 km on a single charge and gets a wall mounted home charger that can charge the battery in 5 hours. It also gets a host of features like dual connected screen with multiple connected car features and a new cabin design theme.

Talking on electric vehicles in India, Rajeev Chaba said that a lot has changed since the time he launched the MG ZS EV in India. Infrastructure is more accessible, while people are more aware of EVs in general. He further added that the learnings of the MG ZS EV prompted the company to launch the MG Comet EV and he is expecting the EV to do some good sales numbers in India.
