Meerut:
Another gangster has been killed in an encounter by the Special Task Force of Uttar Pradesh Police.
Anil Dujana, who was known to terrorize people in Noida, Ghaziabad and other areas of Delhi-NCR, was killed in an encounter with the Special Task Force (STF) of the UP Police in Meerut.
He faced more than 60 criminal cases.
Dujana had just been released from jail a week ago after getting bail in a murder case. Sources said that soon after this, he started threatening one of the key witnesses in the murder case registered against him.
Dujana had decided to kill the witness, he said.
After this STF went to arrest him. Sources said that during the operation, Dujana and his gang engaged the police, which led to an encounter that resulted in his death.
The encounter took place on a kutcha road surrounded by tall bushes in a village in Meerut. Police said that he and his gang were hiding there and opened fire on the STF operatives while coming. The police team immediately retaliated.
After Dujana threatens the witness, the police leave no stone unturned as witnesses have been killed in major cases in the recent past.
In February, a witness in the murder case of a Bahujan Samaj Party leader was shot dead by Asad Ahmed, son of gangster Atiq Ahmed. Asad was killed in an encounter last month, and his father was also shot on camera near a hospital while talking to reporters in UP’s Prayagraj.
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said several times that he intends to rid the state of dreaded criminals and gangsters.
Since March 2017 when Yogi Adityanath became chief minister, 183 gangsters have been killed in encounters, the UP police said last month. Thirteen policemen were killed in action during the same period. Eight of them were ambushed in a narrow lane in Kanpur by gangster Vikas Dubey’s associates. The gangster was later killed in the encounter.
