Kaleshwaram project deserves praise on the global stage

In what can be called a proud moment for the state of Telangana, the world acknowledged and applauded the monumental efforts of the government in registering phenomenal success stories with respect to irrigation and drinking water.

The government’s flagship programs—Kaleshwaram, the world’s largest multi-stage lift irrigation project, and Mission Bhagiratha, the ambitious drinking water project—have received thunderous applause from civil engineers in the United States. Telangana’s enduring symbols of engineering excellence have won accolades at the World Environment and Water Resources Congress held in Nevada, USA and the Kaleshwaram project has received global recognition from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

ASCE President Maria C. Lehmann presented a proclamation to IT and Industry Minister KT Rama Rao to award the Lift Irrigation Project a unique recognition as an ‘enduring symbol of engineering progress and partnership’.

Shri Rama Rao has the rare honor of representing an Indian State on the global stage at the World Environment and Water Resources Congress organized by ASCE. He was invited to give a detailed presentation on the topic ‘Raising a River Multiple Benefits and Social Equality: The Story of the World’s Largest Multi-Level Lift Irrigation Project’ at the conference, which was attended by over 1,000 delegates from around the world. “Telangana has successfully constructed the world’s largest multi-stage lift irrigation project, Kaleshwaram, and completed the ambitious Mission Bhagiratha, which provides piped drinking water to every household in the state. These remarkable projects were not only completed in record time, but also with utmost efficiency and cost-effectiveness,” said Shri Rama Rao while addressing the gathering.

The minister concluded, “As the river flows with renewed vigour, the spirit of the Kaleshwaram project inspires us to transcend boundaries and create a future where no challenge is too big, and no dream out of reach. “
