80 officers transferred after gangster Tillu Tajpuria’s killing in high-security Tihar Jail

New Delhi: Eighty police officers of Delhi’s Tihar Jail have been transferred following the brazen murder of gangster Tillu Tajpuria inside the prison by his rivals.

According to jail sources quoted by news agency ANI, these officials included five deputy superintendents, nine assistant superintendents, eight head wardens and 50 wardens.

Tajpuria, 33, was killed in a knife attack on May 2 and the attack was caught live on CCTV at the high-security prison. This allowed the security personnel to witness the act without any interference.

On Thursday, the Delhi High Court questioned the jail authorities about the delay in responding to the brutal attack.

Justice Jasmeet Singh said: “What bothers me is that this is being seen on CCTV cameras. How can the police take so much time that the incident cannot be stopped when it is happening.

“It shakes my judicial conscience,” the judge said.

The high court was hearing a petition by Tajpuria’s father and brother seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the murder.

Tajpuria was allegedly killed by the notorious Gogi gang, four of whom cut two iron grills to reach him, and stabbed him 40 to 50 times. Also inmates, the attackers – Deepak alias Teetar, Yogesh alias Tunda, Rajesh and Riyaz Khan – apparently used a bed sheet to enter the ground floor ward of Tajpuria at around 6.15 am.

Tajpuria was an accused in the 2021 Rohini Court shootout in which gangster Jitendra Gogi was killed.
