After Pakistan, China has also turned down India’s invitation for regional security talks on Afghanistan. India is hosting a meeting of the National Security Advisors (NSA) of Afghanistan’s ‘regional’ neighbors in New Delhi on November 10. Pakistan refused to come because of India, however, China qualified its response. Citing its inability to participate due to “scheduling issues”, Beijing said they wanted to engage India bilaterally on Afghanistan. The Indian government has refrained from linking the two denials, though sources said China’s reaction may be due to Pakistan’s sensitivity. The day-long event will focus on terrorism and related security challenges and uncertainties arising out of Afghanistan, which was taken over by the Taliban in August. Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan have confirmed their participation in the meeting.
