NS Central Board of Indirect Taxes And Customs on Thursday launched an online application for checking import cargo for traders at the Inland Container Depot Tughlakabad (ICD TKD) here.
“As a major push in technology and digitization, the Delhi Customs sector today took three important initiatives,” the Finance Ministry said in a statement.
The move is aimed at reducing the physical interface of trade with customs and other stakeholders.
“It is a multi-stakeholder application with Customs, CONCOR, Customs Brokers and Importers on a single platform, having a shared view of scheduling examination of goods. This initiative will ensure complete transparency along with the convenience of trade and other stakeholders.”
In addition, Customs also inaugurated a Baggage Scanner at ICD Tughlakabad, which will result in non-intrusive checking of unaccounted baggage/palleted import cargo while ensuring faster clearance. It will also help Customs in targeted interventions to prevent smuggling, the statement said.
A few days ago, electronic tracking of containerized cargo through the use of Smart Lock and an application built on Blockchain technology was launched.
In addition, in order to improve the logistics efficiency of the industry, ICDs will have customs clearance work on Sundays and all public holidays. This facility is being implemented in ICD TKD from 14th November with working hours between 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
ICD Tughlakabad (TKD) at its present location, since 1993, was the second land port to be established in the country after Bangalore in 1983. It caters to the need of importers and exporters and is the largest inland dry port of North India.
