Textiles Minister Piyush Goyal suggested the students and alumni of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) to connect with weavers and artisans by connecting them with the market.

Textiles Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday suggested the students and alumni of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) to connect with weavers and artisans by connecting them with the market. He said that the spirit of self-reliance can be given direction by helping weavers and artisans so that they can get their due.
The Minister said that designing, packaging and branding for the products of the artisans can give them good returns and the students of NIFT can consider working in this direction. He added that the institute has contributed immensely to the fashion industry as a center of excellence and “we hope that in the near future, we will be able to designate it as an institute of national importance”.
Further, Goyal said that Indian quality should define what is world class. “I want today’s graduates to work in the next five years to make India the ‘Fashion Capital of the World’…India has to lead in the field of best quality. Indian quality should define what is world class ,” he said while addressing the convocation ceremony at NIFT, Delhi.
NIFT was established in 1986 in Delhi under the aegis of Ministry of Textiles. It is engaged in 12 prestigious projects ranging from Uniform Design, Product Design to Visual Merchandising. The Combat Uniform of the Indian Army Project is one of them with a total project cost of Rs 103.20 lakh.
