Amravati Violence: Former BJP General Secretary Anil Bonde arrested along with 13 others

Former Maharashtra agriculture minister and BJP leader Anil Bonde and 13 others were arrested on Monday in connection with the November 13 violence in Amaravati city in which stones were pelted at shops during the BJP-called bandh, police said. . Besides Bonde, Amravati district BJP president Nivedita Choudhary, city mayor Chetan Gawande, BJP state spokesperson Shivrai Kulkarni were also arrested. All of them were produced in a court which granted them bail. The police have so far registered cases against 14,673 people under 26 different offenses in connection with the back to back incidents of violence that took place on Friday and Saturday in Amravati city. A rally was taken out by the Raza Academy on Friday to protest against the alleged incidents of communal violence in Tripura, during which stones were pelted at various places. A day after mobs pelted stones at shops in Rajkamal Chowk and adjoining areas during the BJP-called bandh, curfew was imposed in Amaravati city for four days and internet services were suspended. The curfew was extended to include four more cities in the district on Sunday following protests by local BJP leaders. Amravati Police said in a release, “In connection with the violence that took place during the march of Raza Academy to Amravati District Collectorate on November 12, a case was registered against 8,364 people and nine of them were arrested, for which no permission was given.” Wasn’t asked.” Police have registered cases. It said against 6,309 people and 53 of them were arrested for the November 13 violence and weapons were seized from them, adding that nine policemen, including an officer, were injured in stone pelting by the BJP and other organisations. Police have formed separate teams to investigate both the incidents. Anil Bonde, who was detained in Nandgaon Khandeshwar on Sunday, was arrested from his house this morning, while other BJP leaders and at least two members of the VHP surrendered before the police, following which he was arrested. Police have launched a search to trace MLC Praveen Pote for his alleged role in the violence. Police said that property worth Rs 5.15 lakh was damaged in Friday’s violence. Meanwhile, curfew was relaxed for two hours between 2 pm and 4 pm on Monday. However, internet services remained suspended. Amravati Police Commissioner Aarti Singh said, “The law and order situation is being reviewed and the final decision on curfew will be taken only on the instructions of the state home ministry.”
