From today all banks, including private and public sector banks, will remain closed for four days in different parts of the country. Today, banks will remain closed in Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and some others due to Guru Nanak Jayanti/Kartika Purnima.
Gurpurab, commonly known as Guru Nanak Jayanti, is a day to celebrate the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism and the first of the Sikh Gurus. This year the 552nd birth anniversary of the first Sikh Guru is falling on November 19.
Bank holidays are in effect as per a list released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). According to a list of the central bank, the number of holidays this month has been fixed at 11. The rest are weekend leaves. This includes all Sundays of the month as well as the second and fourth Saturdays. Banks are open on the first and third Saturdays of every month.
