Miss Portable TV?

Changes are inevitable and they have to be accepted, because that is the way forward. Changes often remind us of the old, while making us accept the new.

Television has made great strides in its presence and has always been at the forefront of adopting new technologies. I remember the days of black-and-white television, a valuable asset in every home. It had a wooden cabinet that could be taken on and off after the day’s schedule. Then came the blue mirror which would be installed on the set for better viewing.

Next following was color television, which delighted households. The LCD and LED set and now OLED followed.

From a small device in the past, television is getting bigger and bigger. It is a sheer pleasure to watch with the advanced technologies.

The facilities available in modern day television are mind-blowing. Theatrical experience, smooth-flowing images and digitized sound systems were unimaginable in the past.

Meanwhile, small portable TVs have lost their place in the competition. These sets can also sit comfortably on a shelf, occupying very little space. They had great clarity and were used extensively in small shops and salons. This will provide much needed entertainment for the shoppers who spend most of the day in their shops. Portable TVs used to be an additional TV used in the bedrooms of many homes.

Then, the little one suddenly became more beautiful than not.

Although smaller LED and LCD sets, mostly wall-mounted, have been replaced, portable sets are left out. Sometimes, I wondered whether it was a TV set or a computer monitor, because the smaller ones looked alike.

With OTT having a strong impact in the pandemic days, the need for internet television is increasing as it brings home the latest entertainment. Have we ever thought that new movies can be watched from the comfort of home?

How fast things change and change. It is a constantly innovating market where there is old scrap. This is inevitable and needs to be accepted.
