Karnal standoff ends: Haryana government orders probe into August 28 incident

Haryana Additional Chief Secretary Devendra Singh informed that two members of the family of farmer Satish Kajal, who was allegedly killed in lathi charge by Karnal police on August 28, will be given compensation along with jobs at the rate of Deputy Commissioner (DC).

Singh said, “After interacting with the farmer leaders present in today’s joint press conference, the state government has decided that two members of the family of deceased farmer Satish Kajal will be given compensation along with jobs at DC rate in the sanctioned posts. “

Haryana Additional Chief Secretary Devendra Singh told the media in Karnal that the inquiry would be conducted by a retired judge. Singh said the investigation would be completed within a month and former SDM Ayush Sinha would be on leave during this period.

Farmer leader Gurnam Singh Charuni said, “We had demanded jobs for two family members (farmers who were killed in a lathicharge allegedly by Karnal police on August 28) as compensation for their deaths, which the government accepted. And he will get the job within a week.”

“We had also planned to register an FIR against the SDM and other police officials. We also consulted our lawyers and other farmer leaders and we came to the conclusion that even if the administration later agreed to register the FIR, the higher There is a possibility that the FIR registered on the basis of our complaint gets quashed. The police officer can say that we were on police duty and gave orders as per the situation. So there is a high chance of his survival,” the farmer leader said.

Charuni said, “But if a retired high court judge conducts an inquiry then the chances of influencing the allegations are less. We had demanded an inquiry into the Bastar toll incident on August 28, which has also been accepted by the government. “

On August 28, Haryana Police lathi-charged the protesting farmers near the Bastar toll plaza in Karnal, where a large number of farmers had gathered to protest the program to be attended by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

The All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) had alleged that Kajal, a resident of Karnal district, suffered “serious injuries in police lathi charge” and died of “heart attack”.

The farmers were demanding the suspension of Sinha, who was allegedly caught telling policemen to “break the heads” of farmers if they cross the border. On August 28, around 10 protesters were injured in a clash with police in Karnal when they tried to march towards the BJP meeting place.
