New Delhi: The Kerala Police has shortlisted the Indo-Russian joint venture product, AK-203 Assault Rifles for purchase as part of its modernization process. If purchased, the Kerala Police will become the first non-monitoring agency to bring the upgraded Kalashnikov upgraded.
Sources in the defense and safety establishment told Theprint that the tender is for 250 units of the AK-203 domesticly manufactured, with the deal. 2.25 crores.
Sources said that this acquisition is a component of a large project, which is to modernize the standard-dust firearms used by the police force. Interestingly, while it has called for dialects for firearms, it has specifically mentioned the AK -203 in the tender.

The only manufacturer of the AK-203 is Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL), a joint venture, which includes two domestic firms and equipment India Limited (Aweil) and Munishan India Limited (MIL) and Russian stakeholders Rosoboronxport and Kalashanikov Group besides Munishan India Limited (MIL).
Cooperation combines Russian technical capacity with Indian production capacity.
The tender for the AK -203 rifles was swimming on 31 March. In a statement on Telegram on 15 April, the Russian Embassy in India confirmed that IRRPL would participate.
Earlier this year, India proposed to export Nepal to AK -203, which is in the form of replacement of the old INS platform, which indicates a comprehensive ambition to standardize the rifles of modern attacks in allied regional forces.
The Indian Army now has about one lakh AK-203 rifles, as well as one and 70,000 more on the order. In addition to military approval, some states are looking at AK -203 for use by their police forces and commando units.
The Kerala Police Arsenal currently consists of AK-47s, Insas Rifles, Self-Locating Rifles and Ghatak Rifles. The German-made Hekler and Coach MP5 Sabmashin Gun, with an order of 20 units in 2020, is currently the most contemporary weapon in operation. The police also take fire scriptures from other foreign manufacturers.
