Man steals jewellery bag from woman, caught in an hour in Salem

The Salem Railway police nabbed a man, who stole a woman’s handbag that contained 50 grams of gold jewellery, within an hour on Friday night.

S. Sankari (28), a resident of Bengaluru, is working in a private company. To attend a function in a relative’s home in Madurai, she and her husband, Sankar Dayal, went to Madurai and on Friday evening, they were heading to Bengaluru in a train. She kept her 50 grams of gold jewellery in her handbag.

When the train reached Salem Railway Junction around 9.45 p.m., a person stole the bag and fled from the spot. She immediately alerted the Salem Railway Police. The police verified the CCTV footage and identified the accused as B. Dasthakeer Babu (27) of Sathyamangalam in Erode district. They nabbed him within an hour and recovered the bag and jewellery. The police registered a case and remanded the accused in prison.
