Gujarat Titans confirm spot in IPL 2025 playoffs after win over DC; RCB, PBKS officially qualify too

Gujarat Titans made light work of Delhi Capitals in their 200-run chase on the back of a sensational batting display by Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan.

New Delhi:

Gujarat Titans’ win over Delhi Capitals on Sunday, May 18, has confirmed the entry of three teams into the IPL 2025 playoffs. Led by sensational batting display from GT openers – Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan – the Titans made light work of DC’s 199 as they hunted down the target with ease.

GT’s win means that three teams – GT themselves, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings – have officially qualified for the playoffs. Sudharsan slammed a century, while Gill also manoeuvred his way extremely well as GT inflicted DC with their fourth loss in their last six matches in the season.

GT achieve a never-seen-before record in IPL history

Sudharsan and Gill made a mockery of the Capitals’ bowling. Their insane consistency churned out yet another unbelievable chapter as they hunted down the 200-run target without losing a single wicket and with six balls to spare. This marked the first instance of a team chasing down a 200 or 200-plus target with 10 wickets in hand.

This is also only the second instance of a team chasing 200 or more in T20 cricket without losing a wicket, with the only other instance being when Pakistan hunted down 200 against England in Karachi in 2022.

Highest target chased without losing a wicket in T20s:

200 – GT vs DC, Delhi, 2025*

200 – PAK vs ENG, Karachi, 2022

184 – KKR vs GL, Rajkot, 2017

179 – CSK vs PBKS, Dubai, 2020

178 – RCB vs RR, Mumbai, 2021

Sudharsan and Gill batted at a different level yet again. Sudharsan slammed his second IPL hundred with this one coming off 57 balls. He scored 108 off 61 balls with 12 fours and four sixes. Gill played second fiddle to Sudharsan with his unbeaten 93 from 53 deliveries.

Earlier, KL Rahul slammed a century as he scored an unbeaten 112 after being sent in to open alongside Faf du Plessis. Apart from Rahul, Abishek Porel, Tristan Stubbs and Axar Patel also put contributions, however, their 199 proved out to be way too low against the rampaging GT batting.
