Children should grow up learning from failures, says Pinarayi

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that children should grow up learning from their failures, and that overprotective parenting can render them incapable of coping with even small setbacks.

Addressing an interactive session held as part of the fourth anniversary celebrations of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government, the Chief Minister warned parents to be vigilant. “When children grow up, they will stumble even at small setbacks. That is where drug use and suicidal tendencies among children begin,” he said.

Mr. Vijayan stressed the importance of teachers providing counselling to children and announced plans to provide necessary training to teachers. He also proposed initiatives to promote mental well-being, such as Zumba dance sessions.

The Chief Minister also pointed out the need to identify and address drug abuse issues early on, rather than hiding them. “Substance abuse should never be covered up. It should be brought out into the open. Only then can it be nipped in the bud,” he said.

Mr. Vijayan defended the government’s decision to increase taxes, saying that the revenue generated would be used for social welfare programmes.

He touched upon the State’s progress in education and healthcare, citing improvements in the public education system and the government’s efforts to provide quality education to all. He also said that it was important to prevent vested interests from spreading communalism in society.
