Experience the Culinary Essence of the North Eastern States at Ashoka, New Delhi

The cuisine of 7 Sisters has a tempting blend of subtle spices and flavours, and really can’t be described in a few sentences. The dishes you find in this cuisine are so diverse in their taste, ingredients used and cooking techniques, which give a whole new different experience to the taste buds. You will find many exotic ingredients such as fermented soybeans, bamboo shoots and dried fish transformed into simple yet delicious dishes. We recently visited Ashoka, Chanakyapuri to participate in the festival of North Eastern states. According to Executive Chef Arvind Rai, “The motive behind this festival is to promote the culture of the northeastern states by presenting unique food items for themselves. For someone who loves to experiment with food, Northeast India has a lot to offer more than just momos and noodles.

We started our meal with a delightful and hot soup known as gyathuk, which was filled with noodles and seasoned with mild and aromatic spices, possibly the best start we could have wished for.

Heading to Maine, we took a detour and saw what all the dishes were available. We chose to fill our plate with a few dishes like puta (noodles), lakteer (delicious chicken salad), khorika (Assamese fish) and dal in one bowl. The whole meal was very different than the other dishes. It was not only delicious but also very healthy. Amidst the desserts, we had the delicious and luscious black rice pudding to end our experience on a sweet note.

Apart from this, there were many more options to taste in salads, desserts, main-courses and starters. Most of the ingredients used in making these dishes were sourced from regional buildings to maintain the authentic taste.

and that is all! Our experience at this fest was quite unique. We will definitely look forward to more such North Eastern dishes.
