Nagesh Sheriguppi, his wife Vijayalakshmi, 26, daughter Sapna, 8, and son Samarth, 4, all natives of Sunag village in Bilgi taluk of Bagalkot district, were found dead at their home in Morgan Gate. Nagesh was a driver while his wife worked as a domestic help in Noor Jahan’s house.
Shashi Kumar said that Nagesh and the family were living in the same apartment complex in which the accused lived. The family later moved to another house.
Recently, the couple was going through a rough patch in their marriage and there were frequent fights between them. Investigations and Noor Jahan’s confession statement revealed that as the couple began to separate, a matchmaker Nur Jahan encouraged Vijayalakshmi to divorce her husband and even arranged for a lawyer for her. He also promised Vijayalakshmi to find a match from his community. Police said that Nagesh had a fight with Noor Jahan over this.
Nagesh was an alcoholic and often abused his wife. Police said that when Vijayalakshmi along with her children went missing for six days, she allegedly stayed with Noor Jahan.
Preliminary medical reports suggest that Nagesh hanged himself, while Vijayalakshmi was strangled to death and the children were strangled to death. Police have seized Vijayalakshmi’s photographs and other belongings from Noor Jahan’s house. The accused was produced before the court and sent to judicial custody.
