PML-N leader and Pakistan PM Shahbaz Sharif’s son Hamza Shahbaz has been elected as the Chief Minister of Punjab in Pakistan amid uproar during the assembly session.
Hamza Shahbaz was elected the 21st Chief Minister of Punjab with 197 votes.
Meanwhile, three PTI members of the Punjab Assembly were arrested ahead of the vote for attacking Deputy Speaker Dost Mohammad Mazari as the party boycotted the session to elect a new chief minister. Hamza’s rival Pervez Elahi got no votes as his party and the PTI boycotted the elections.
MPs from former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party attacked Mazari and pulled her hair to change her loyalty.
TV footage showed Mazari being slapped, punched and dragged by PTI members before security guards could save her.
PTI MLAs brought “lota” to the House and chanted “lota, lota” (turncoat) as they lashed out at disgruntled PTI MPs who broke away from the party and decided to support the opposition.
