A for Arjuna, B for Balarama, C for Chanakya: The Indian version of the alphabet is taught in the UP school.

A school in Lucknow is teaching students alphabets with an Indian twist. A in Uttar Pradesh’s Aminabad Inter College Lucknow is no longer for apple but for Arjun. With the aim of imparting historical and mythological knowledge from the English alphabet, the college has dedicated each alphabet to a mystical or historical figure from Hindu mythology.

In this new ABC, A for Arjuna, B for Balarama, C for Chanakya, D for Dhruva, E for Eklavya, F for four Vedas, G for Gayatri, H for Hanuman, I for Indra Yes, etc.

Talking about this unique initiative, Sahab Lal Mishra, Principal of Lucknow based college said, “Students have less knowledge about Indian culture, so we have done this to enhance their knowledge.”

The alphabet charts maintained by the school not only have the names and pictures of mythological and historical figures, but also share their details. For example, Arjuna is described as a ‘great warrior’ and Chanakya as an ‘ideal teacher’.

The school’s efforts to connect children to their roots do not end here. The principal said that they are trying to follow a similar pattern with the Hindi alphabet (varnamala). Since there are more alphabets in Hindi, the process is taking more time.

The school is run by the Municipal Corporation and was established in 1897. It is located in the capital Lucknow and is 125 years old.
