WhatsApp, the instant messaging app owned by Meta, has always been in the news for security concerns. However, the platform claims to provide end-to-end encryption protection for chats between users. According to Meta, encrypted messages are sent, received and not read securely by WhatsApp. WhatsApp claims that these end-to-end encrypted chats are protected by security codes.
To secure users’ chats, WhatsApp Claims to use a unique security code that is used to verify that the calls and messages users send over that chat are end-to-end encrypted. These security codes are described as visual forms of special keys. In addition, the contact information of WhatsApp users displays the code in the form of a 60-digit number and a QR code.
Sometimes, reinstalling WhatsApp, switching phones, or removing a paired device can cause security codes to change. Specifically, users can enable their security notifications to receive alerts whenever the security code of a contact’s device changes.
